ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS

Accessibility upgrades live and die on technical detail — a ramp gradient a few degrees out, TGSIs in the wrong location, or a handrail height that misses AS1428 by a small margin can mean a facility fails compliance despite the work being visually complete. We've worked directly on NSW school accessibility and infrastructure upgrades, which means we're across EFSG requirements for ramp geometry, TGSIs, emergency lighting, PA systems and handrail specifications as they apply specifically to education settings, not just general commercial compliance. That detail gets built into design from the start rather than checked at the end and hoped for. Because these upgrades are almost always happening at a facility that needs to keep operating — a school, an aged care facility, a public building — we stage works to keep the site safe and functional throughout construction rather than requiring a full closure, which is usually the client's biggest concern going in. Where a project involves an access consultant's or occupational therapist's report, we work directly from their recommendations rather than treating them as a separate compliance box to tick, and we're comfortable working within the reporting and approval processes that government and institutional funding bodies require.

What we do differently

Compliance is designed in from the start — ramp gradients, TGSIs, handrail heights and emergency systems correct to AS1428 and EFSG requirements — not checked and corrected after the fact. Works are staged to keep your facility operational and safe throughout construction, not closed for the duration of the build.

Why trust AFA

We've delivered NSW school accessibility and infrastructure compliance work directly, so EFSG requirements are practical knowledge for us, not a checklist we're reading for the first time. ISO 45001 safety systems, NSW government prequalification and family-run accountability back every access improvement project we take on.
